Vintage Montague Trade Reels

Here’s another pair of vintage fishing reels from my personal collection. The first is a MONTAGUE – VICTORY, chrome plated bait cast reel 80 Yds. This is just one of many that Montague made for the trade market, The reel features chrome plated brass construction including the spool, metal ringed black rubber side plates, drag adjustment button on tail plate, “clicker,” and a cream-colored bone or ceramic handle knob that turns freely. I rate the reel a 5/7 on the ORCA rating scale, clean, lubricated, and operates smoothly. Gear ratio is 2:1, rated line capacity is 80 Yds., and it weighs 5.4 oz. The reel measures 2 ¼” in diameter and 2” across the side plates. The second is a MONTAGUE – GULF (the inscription barely visible on the head plate) conventional 250 Yds. rated reel. Like the VICTORY, this is just one of many reels made for the trade industry. This reel features German Silver construction including the spool, metal ringed black rubber side plates, on/off free spool lever on head plate, drag adjustment button on tail plate, “clicker,” and a black wood handle knob that turns freely. I rate the reel a 6/8 on the ORCA rating scale, clean, lubricated, and functions smoothly. Gear ratio is 2:1, rated line capacity is 250 Yds., and it weighs 15.3 oz. The reel measures 3 1/8” in diameter and 2 ¾” across the side plates. Both reels come with complimentary cardboard storage boxes. S&H at the 2 lb. rate.
