View-Master Reel 1980-2 ROSE COURT Festival - PORTLAND Oregon Custom

For the View-Master Collector Rare Custom-produced Rose Court Reel Background :  Portland OR, was the home of View-Master, and it is known as the the " City of Roses ". Since 1907 it has held the Rose Festival. Fourteen pretty young girls were chosen from the Portland area high schools for a pageant and one is to be chosen to be the Rose Queen . From 1973 to 1985 the View-Master Company produced a set of reels commemorating this pageant. There are scenes of the young girls touring the plant and pictures were taken with the girls posing in group settings but also along side View-Master personnel and executives. A highlight of the tour was when the girls were invited back for a luncheon and were presented a set of their own pictures in 3-D on View-Master reels with a View-Master viewer. A great 3-D scene was taken when they all pick up the viewers and see themselves in 3-D. These reels are hard to find , since they had a very low print run and were never offered for sale to the public. They were given away to View-Master employees and the girls and personnel of the Rose Festival. I have reproduced all 7 scenes in this reel using my camera to take a picture through the lens of a View-Master viewer. If the picture looks out of focus, this is due to my copying, not the original reel. Please Note: Starting in 1979, View-Master changed films and the reels after than do not have the good Kodachrome colors of the earlier reels. This is evident from my pictures. Also, starting in 1980, the photographer started using twin cameras and the pictures are hypersteros. This works well for distance subjects, not so well for close-ups.
