This is a somewhat diminutive, small brass raised pillar fishing reel earnestly wising it was related to the Leonard, Vom Hofe, and even Pflueger reels of that style. Regrettably, it is a lost cost stamped and riveted version of those princely reels produced by U.S. Net & Twine. It is optimistically named "The Climax" and so proclaims on the top side of the reel foot. Opposite, is the July 3, 1894 patent date, also seen on the topside. It is further enhanced by some creme colored fabric fishing line of dubious origin I mounted on their 30 years ago. It has a sporty looking wooden winding knob in good condition. If this little winch could talk it would undoubtedly have stories to tell, starting with the 12 year old little boy who may have paid 15 or 20 cents for this back in 1900. World War 1 would be commencing 17 years hence. This would make a great start to someone wishing to start a vintage tackle collection. For those a little further along. you might be interested in my listings of Meeks,Vom Hofes, and coming soon, antique and vintage Pflueger deep sea reels. Domestic shipping only.
