Here's a Sony TC-355 Reel to Reel Stereo Tape Deck. This is a solid state 3-head playback/record deck made in Japan.
A few years ago I was able to get all the mechanical aspects of this deck working - play, record, fast-forward, rewind.
I then put it away, figuring I'd finish it at a later date but never got to it and it needs to go. Here's what I'd recommend doing or having done to it:
* New belts (current belts ARE working).
* Replacement capstan idler wheel (working but
noisy).
* New felts on the two reel brakes.
* Repair an issue with no audio on left channel during playback or record. Someone previously replaced several transistors in the left channel audio path (with appropriate replacements), but that did not correct the issue. My guess is possibly a bad capacitor in the audio path, but I have far too many projects and not enough time, so this deck needs to go.
This tape deck does record and playback on the right channel and sounds pretty good. Pause function works. Fast-forward and rewind work. Get the left channel working and perform the above maintenance items and this tape deck should be good to go.
Cosmetically this tape deck is in pretty nice shape with minor signs of use and handling. It's missing the two screws that hold the front cover over the heads on tight. I have the nuts and those are included. I slid heatshrink over the posts to hold the cover snug.
Please review the pictures closely and ask any questions. With a little work this can be a nice reel to reel tape deck or use it for parts to get your TC-355 going again. Sold as-is with no returns or refunds.
