Penn 5000 / aka 555 GS Conventional Fishing Reel - (4BB, 5.3:1,

This 5000 is the first run of reels - to what was quickly expanded into the more well known GS Series which consisted of 525, 535, 545, 555. This is the original 555 size, 600yds 20lb. Similar in design to a 525MAG or 340/345GTi - not typical for a Penn they ditched the standard bridge and sleeve and tried a gear stud with ball bearing combo which resulted in a very smooth cranking reel. Also using a 1pc graphite frame and "high speed" 5.3:1 ratio. Interesting series, not one of their best sellers but still a well made and durable reel. Very nice looking main gear used in this one
