Hardy brothers , Alnwick England Antique Hardy Silex alloy casting reel 3 1/4” diameter  Narrow Drum + 1/4" cut away Face Plate rim  built in Alnwick, England by Hardy Brothers Made by famous Hardy reelmaker 'Walter Dingley' - stamped 'D' inside
Narrow Drum - 7/8" arbor width
solid polished alloy core drum, with 12 brass pin cage drum + line attachment spring EARLY UN-ventilated Face Plate,
with concentric circle and cage drum brass rivets spaced evenly Face Plate with EARLY
twin off white bone handles with brass retaining screws inner Face Plate rim rare Nickel Silver finish
Brass Slater style quick release latch to Face Plate with raised spindle boss
jewelled spindle bearing
5 integral drum pillars
Plates + outer rims leaded alloy finish
Back Plate raised spindle boss
rear inner flange polished alloy finish
smooth extended brass bridge foot attached with 2 brass screws to 2 integral alloy drum pillars

stamped D - Walter Dingley reel maker inside, ( Hardy's most famous employee who went on to setup his own shop also in Alnwick and make for many other retailers) VERY RARE + EARLY EXAMPLE
The reel is in excellent condition for its age. Freewheels smoothly when lever is pushed down for casting.
This model is production from 1897 to around 1898, before changes were made to design  ( see J Drewett book )
so is considered to be quite an early reel.
Can be used to fish or one to collect.
