It was designed by Alfred Jardine, a well-known 19th-century angler and fishing tackle designer from England. The reel has nickel rims and an ebonite backplate. Ebonite is a vulcanized natural rubber, used as a substitute for ebony wood. We do not know what material was used to make the handle (see photos) . The reel turns both clockwise and counter-clockwise and makes a clicking sound in both directions. It measures 3" in diameter.
