Garcia Mitchell 400 spinning reel with special ceramic line guide, manufactured in France in 1966, serial number 5124868 engraved on the foot. Comes in the blue and red angle card box, with Garcia label, extra spool in undamaged container and papers. Garcia Mitchell 400 engraved on cover plate Wide anti reverse lever Bail arm with red rubber bumper Ceramic line guide Left hand wind, torpedo handle, with wide knob screw and no screwdriver slot Two spools This reel has been gently used, and the paintwork has some rubbing on the edges of the housing, the rotating head and foot where it attaches to the rod (see pictures). This model has a white, ceramic line guide (see pictures) which was tested as an alternative to the tungsten carbide line guide, by Garcia, in the US in early 1966. The reel is fully functioning with a smooth retrieve and working anti-reverse. The chrome is shiny and the bail spring is strong and flips over with a loud click. The box is solid, with some outer shelf wear (see pictures), and the extra spool is in it's plastic container with no cracks. The paperwork is in very good condition. This is a very good condition, fully functioning, nearly 60 year old reel, with a hard to find test component, to fish with or add to a collection.
